Redeemer Lutheran Church

Redeemer Lutheran Church is a member congregation of the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod in Grassy Butte, North Dakota. Redeemer is also the mother congregation of Saint Philip in Watford City. You are invited to participate in worship at 10:00 A.M. Mountain.

Redeemer began as a mission plant in 1925. The pastor at Beach, Rev. Trinklein, was sent to begin preaching in Grassy Butte. The trip was very difficult in those days, since it was before the construction of reliable roads. He served for a number of years, making the long trip regularly, before he was called to a different parish.

Redeemer organized into a regular congregation on May 10, 1931, and was later received as a member of the LCMS on June 18 of the same year. The congregation decided to build its own building on the present spot in October of 1932. The cornerstone of the basement was laid on October 8, 1933, but the rest was not completed until 1949.  A fire several years ago severely damaged much of the building, but after much work, the present building was rebuilt on the same spot with a new addition.

Through all of the difficult times this congregation has experienced, God has not forgotten her. He has sustained this little flock through many decades by His gracious power.  Even with the many changes today in western North Dakota, Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow.  He will preserve this Church according to His grace and mercy.
